Exceptional trading performance requires the ability to become comfortable with things that normally trigger our discomfort—losses, mistakes, uncertainty, imperfection, strong emotions…
In our default mode of going through life, we end up coping with this discomfort in unproductive ways that contradict detached trading:
We try to fix it by avoiding loss or seeking certainty.
We enter denial mode or avoid responsibility.
We rationalize it and beat ourselves up.
Just like the yogi Baron Baptiste—the son of two of America’s yoga pioneers—says:
‘The pose begins when you want to leave it.’
The same is true in trading: 'Good trading begins when you let go of what you can’t control.’
Long-lasting, successful trading requires the ability to trade detachedly, and you’ll only be able to do that when you change your mindset about discomfort.
Once you master the skill of getting comfortable under discomfort, you’ve gained superpowers for your trading and life! In this week’s newsletter, we’ll explore how you can develop this superpower.
